The main mission of The Kelly Heinz-Grundner Brain Tumor Foundation is to raise awareness for brain tumors. In a nutshell, we want to shine the light on this disease in a way that has never been done before! To do this, we plan to create and launch a national multimedia awareness campaign.
The primary goal of the campaign is to educate the public about brain tumor facts and symptoms, as well as, the proper diagnosis techniques. However, the secondary goal is just as important – to create a platform for people to get involved in the fight against brain tumors. The bottom line is there simply are not enough people supporting this cause right now and our aim is to change that dynamic for the benefit of the entire brain tumor community.
To that end, we have spent the last year working with an advertising agency to develop several campaign concepts using our trademark slogan “Get Your Head In The Game!” One example is our “Did You Know?” campaign:

As you can see, this concept obviously has more of a public service bend to it. What may not be obvious though is the strategy for the campaign, which is to use real people who’ve been affected by this disease as the voice of the disease. People from all walks of life and from all different age groups, ethnic categories and socioeconomic statuses because the truth is that everyone is potential candidate for this disease.
These individuals would be selected from nominations from across the country and the selected individuals would have their stories told on the website. The idea being that while the ad itself is only a dark silhouette or shadow (representing the darkness of the disease), the reader could find out more about the person (and brain tumors) by visiting our website.
The other campaign we’ve developed uses athletes who have a tie to the disease. While we can’t show you the concepts we’ve developed (since we don’t actually have these athletes signed up right now), the copy would read something like the following:
Everyday I get to play a game.
The game I love.
The game of football.
For me and my teammates, life really is a game.
Life isn’t a game though for the thousands of people, like my father, who are diagnosed with a brain tumor each year.
For many, their diagnosis is delayed because they were uneducated about the disease.
Sadly, the effects are often devastating.
My goal is to help change this dynamic.
If you don’t have the facts on brain tumors, then you need to Get Your Head In The Game!
In both cases, what is exciting is that we are now ready to take these concepts off the shelf and onto the street where they have a real chance to help somebody. Our immediate desire is to launch a campaign in the Wilmington/Philadelphia area in 2008. Then, once the concepts are proven, our plan would be to roll them out nationally.
To that end, we are actively seeking partners and sponsors to help make the Wilmington/Philadelphia launch a reality. If you are interested in getting involved in the campaign, or know someone that is, please contact Chris Grundner at 302-427-2280 or chris.grundner@khgbraintumorfoundation.org
Separately, we urge you to…
One of the most important things you can do to support our work is to become an active member of our grassroots awareness building campaign and help spread the word in your neighborhood or neck of the woods.
The first step is to learn the facts about brain tumors so you can help us share the critical information that may ultimately save someone's life.
Click here to get the facts!
The second step is to direct people to our web site, which is a central depository of information and resources about brain tumors.
Finally, contact us to get some "Get Your Head in the Game!" t-shirts, bracelets and bumper stickers materials to support your efforts!
Note: We will update this page as we further develop our plans for the campaign in the coming months, so check back periodically to see how we’re progressing. Also, be on the lookout for the launch of the campaign itself in media channels near you!
